Is singer Cassie trying to be like Aaliyah?

Yes. I mean, you see how she dresses, the way she acts, the way she fixes her hair, and the way she sings. And she became a model, moved to New York, is a singer, actress, and a dancer. That should tell you something. And most of the pictures I've seen on Cassie, are identical to the ones Aaliyah took before she died. If Aaliyah was here, there would've been trouble. Cassie was heavily influenced by Aaliyah she said that her self in a Questions and Answers interview on Youtube. In Official Girl there was a lot of question, because the whole image and vibe she gave in the video was reminiscent of Aaliyah and her style. That video alone made people speculate and suspicious.

I believe that she also shaved one side of her hair to stop the "style" comparisons between her and Aaliyah.

In the beginning YES. There were a lot of similarities in style of music..both vocally and production wise that struck up controversy between both Aaliyah fans and Ciara fans. As well as industry pioneers as well. But Ciara said in an interview once that she is a very big Aaliyah fan, and that she is a big inspiration for a lot of her sultry R&B songs she has made. Alongside Janet Jackson, she said that she has always admired Aaliyah because of her style, and music and her personality. She said even though she didn't get to meet her in person, that Missy Elliot Aaliyah's closest friend and other friends who knew Aaliyah always tell her about how kind and gentle hearted Aaliyah was to not just fans but people in general. She even said some of her favorite Aaliyah songs are "One In A Million," "Hot Like Fire," "Are you That Somebody" which ironically appeared on Ciara's countdown when she hosted BET back in 2005. She said she admires her and has tons of respect for her, and that she would never try to take her place in the industry..and that she even sees some similarities but that she doesn't want people to see her as trying to copy anything that Aaliyah did before death. She also said she would have loved to do a song with her, and keeps her constantly in her thoughts with whatever she's doing whether it's going on tour, talking to Missy on the phone, writing music, or performing it.
