Is the bolt that holds the headlight assembly on the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee passenger side about six to eight inches long and does it go all the way through the housing?

Yes that is the bolt, There are also plastic clips on the back that you have to get released. Gently pull, and pry the headligfht straight out.

Ignore that previous answer, he probably thought of removing the clear lens from the black housing... Yes, you can replace the headlight cover. The assembly is just pushed into three ball snaps. First from the engine compartment unscrew the bulb and pull it out, second with two thin pry bars lightly pop out the assembly, it its only as big as the lens squared, They can be purchased as a new headlight assembly (which is just the one lens with the black plastic inner shroud the bulb screws into.) Once you have it out it will appear so simple and just snap back into place the new one and screw in the bulb. I bought two new ones on EBay for $20.

The temp sensor is generally screwed into the thermostat housing. Not sure what the issue is you are having, but with my 01 Grand Cherokee I had a cooling fan relay fail. Basically the fan wasnt working, tested it using jumpers and it worked fine. Learned through online that the relay is located behind the front bumper. Basically you remove the passenger side headlight and use a hole saw and drill a hole in the top of the bumper. The relay is right there. Also, the drilled hole is invisible once you re install the headlight. Hope this helps.
