On a 1996 Grand Cherokee Laredo What would cause the oil pressure gauge to fall all the way to zero when coming to a complete stop and having the check gauges light come on then returning to normal?

Your cam bearings or crank bearings are worn to the point where your oil is no longer going to pump through the journals to the top of the engine . You need new bearings. The engine needs to be over halled.

Loose wire, bad pressure sender (common), low oil pressure.
