Unbolt, slide off. Slide on new part, bolt back on.

I have a 1995 sport. the noise you are talking about could be either your Idler or water pump. Very easy to fix if your handy with tools. If its the water pump it may take about 4 hours, but just take your time.
The grand Cherokee is a body style, sport is a trim package that is used on all jeep models(wrangler, Cherokee, grand Cherokee, patriot, ...)
No, the XJ Cherokee does not have the same heater box as a WJ Grand Cherokee.
Assuming the pump is similar to my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport, you first need to remove the the pulley with a special tool which you can borrow at an auto parts store. But before doing this, loosen and slide off the the belt off the pump. After removing pulley. remove bolts and pump should slide off. Did this to my jeep recently.
How do i get more horsepower in my 1995 jeep cherokee sport with a straight six engine for free?
It has a serpentine belt with a built in tensioner. You can't tighten it. If it is loose, it needs replacing or the idler pulley is defective, or both.
yes there is a idler pully and bracket that gose in place of the compressor a little hard to find
The cost to replace the oil pump on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport ranges from $300 and $500. Replacing the oil pump requires the oil pan to be removed.
Standing in front of truck look to your below power steering pump you see a pulley that is your tenisorner pulley 15mm loosing the bolt on pulley above to the left is another 15mm also turn counter clock wise to loosen it this will help remove the belt
Loosen bolt in tension pulley, then loosen tension bolt. Replace belt. Tighten tension bolt. Last, tighten bolt through pulley.
My '96 Cherokee Sport does, so I bet a '98 does.

The fuel pump is in the gas tank on a 1999 jeep Cherokee sport.
Yes, they are the same vehicle, the sport is just a option package.
1996-2000 Cherokee.
Below and toward the center of the engine from the power steering pump is an idler pulley. Loosen the 15 mm bolt in that pully, but do not remove it. Then, just to the right and below (as viewed from in front of the engine) the water temperature sensor is another 15mm bolt. This is the tensioner bolt. Loosen it all the way, the new belt will not have streched yet and will not fit over the pulley if you don't. Reverse the proceedure to install, if you forget to tighten the pulley when you are done you will be doing it again real soon. Find the idler pulley tensioner and remove tension from the belt. It will then come right off.
