No, she was not. Robert Palmer broke ties with Mary Ambrose in February of 2003 as he and his girlfriend, Geraldine Edwards, were planning on moving to Los Angeles with one another. Palmer also told her at that time to seek other employment as her being on site did make him uncomfortable and made his relationship with Geraldine Edwards awkward. Mary Ambrose became hysterical and refused to leave Palmer's home. He was firm with her and made it perfectly clear that as far as he was concerned she was no longer in his life. He did allow her to stay at his homes and continued to allow her to work as his Estate Manager until she could find other employment as she did have two children belonging to friends of his. He wanted to be sure that they had a safe place to stay. In April it was brought to Robert Palmer's attention by his accountant that there were inequities in his household accounts fund. It was discovered that Ambrose was transferring money from the household accounts fund to her personal accounts, $65,000.00 to be exact. It was also discovered that she was using credit cards intended for household estate matters to purchase herself over $10,000.00 worth of clothing and jewelry as well as treating her friends to expensive lunches. At that time Robert Palmer told Mary Ambrose that she would have to leave his home rather than continue to house her under the circumstances. He promised her that he would not press criminal charges only to avoid scandal, which he did not need. She once again refused to leave his home until he was willing to make a settlement on her. She cited her personal relationship with him and some of his better known friends and agreed not to give interviews in exchange for a financial settlement. Palmer defininitely did not want her giving interviews about himself or any of his friends so he agreed. A settlement was hammered out on September 25, 2003 agreeing to award Ambrose $100,000.00 in exchange for her silence about Palmer and his friends for life. In other words, it was a permanent gag order. Unfortunately for Mary Ambrose the Settlement Agreement had not been drawn up or signed yet and she never received the money as the matter had not become officially legal at the time that Robert Palmer had died. In order for it to have been so, it would have had to have been signed by both parties and filed with the court.

Is it true that Robert Palmer the singers first wifes name was Shelly and why did his manager report that he was only married once?

Robert Palmer's first wife's name was Shelly Putnam, and they were married in 1972. Together, they had three children. They were divorced in 1978. Robert Palmer remarried in 1979. Robert Palmer's manager, Mick Carter, did announce that Robert Palmer was only married once because he simply did not have enough factual information about his client to make accurate reports after his clients death. Everyone who knew Palmer did wonder how one wife and three children could be eliminated, but Carter succeeded in doing so. Ergo, due to his lack of reasonable information, he reported that Palmer was only married once, and had only two children. One of the problems in his poor reporting was that he was culling information from a woman who did not know the facts herself, and in some cases was hoping to revise history regarding Robert Palmer. It worked, and Carter reported information as she fed it to him, resulting in numerous errors of fact. Carter also reported that Robert Palmer and Susan Palmer divorced in 1993, when in fact they divorced in 1999, successfully cutting six years off the longivity of their marriage. Carter's poor performance regarding the Robert Palmer situation earned him a professional black eye, partially resulting in the closing of his management agency in 2004.

Did Mary Ambrose co-write love takes time on Robert Palmers Honey as she had said I thought he wrote it with Sharon O'neill who i was a fan of?

No, she did not. According to the liner notes on Honey, "Love Takes Time" was in fact written by Robert Palmer and Sharon O'Neill. According to Mary Ambrose's brother and many other witnesses, Mary Ambrose did not even meet Robert Palmer until late 1995. Honey was released in 1994. Mary Ambrose tried to claim credit for co-writing Aeroplane on Robert Palmer's Don't Explain. That song was written by Robert Palmer alone. Robert Palmer did allow her to do some back up singing on Rhythm and Blues and Drive, but on Rythm and Blues, B.J. Nash had to go over and correct Ambrose's contributions and on Drive Tina Ann Hart had to re-do Ambrose's contributions, also. Palmer did give Ambrose credit in the liner notes for both, though. At any rate, credit should be given where credit is due. Love Takes Time was co-written by Sharon O'Neill, not Mary Ambrose.

Are the articles written about Robert Palmer and Mary Ambrose for real they seem fabricated and I have read that Palmer did not give those interviews What happened there?

That is correct. According to Elizabeth Freud, who has gone public with this issue, there were three interviews about Robert Palmer and Mary Ambrose that never took place. Jane Gordon wrote two of the articles for the Sunday Mirror, one entitled "The Interview" allegedly written in 1999. It in fact appeared for the first time on an overblog site in 2010, and although at the bottom of the article it states that it had appeared in the Sunday Mirror, it never did. There is no record of the article having ever been printed to that publication. The other article written by her was entitled "Robert Palmer Was Addicted To My Love" and published in the Sunday Mirror on September 27, 2003. According to Elizabeth Freud Robert Palmer was on stage in the presence of a live audience at the time this interview took place. Upon Freud's word, the Sunday Mirror canceled the other two parts of the article that were to be published. They also terminated the employ of Jane Gordon and released an official apology to the Palmer family. The interview that was never given was written by Nick Krewen entitled "A Feature On Robert Palmer." According to Freud, Robert Palmer was in New York at the time he was allegedly giving Krewen this interview. Elizabeth Freud has stated that without question that these three articles are fabricated. She had also publicly stated in writing that Robert Palmer was officially engaged to Geraldine Edwards at the time of his death.

Did some articles that were written about Robert Palmer and Mary Ambrose not actually take place I have read that they were debunked?

Yes, that is correct. Two articles written by Jane Gordon titled "Robert Palmer Was Addicted To My Love" and "The Interview", and one article written by Nick Krewn titled "A Feature on Robert Palmer" never took place, per Elizabeth Freud and Suzanne Parks. Parks was Robert Palmer's publicist from 1989 to 1998 and Freud was his publicist from 1998 to 2003. Parkes has stated that at the time that Krewen's article was allegedly being given in Canada, her client was actually in New York on a publicity junket for Honey with his wife, Susan. Parkes has conclusively stated that the interview never took place. In fact it did not even appear on the internet until ten days after Robert Palmer's death on a Web Site known as Octopus Media. Regarding the alleged Gordon interviews, at the time that the "Robert Palmer Was Addicted To My Love" interview was allegedly taking place, Robert Palmer was on stage in front of a British audience, taping a part of his "My Kinda People" special for Yorkshire Television. This was noted by Elizabeth Freud to the Sunday Mirror, and the publication cancelled the three part series, as it was originally planned. The publication also fired Jane Gordon, as well as issuing a public apology to the Palmer family. The second article that Gordon wrote titled "The Interview" was debunked for the same reason. The interview never took place, according to Freud. This alleged interview has only appeared on an overblog site, and although at the bottom of the article it says that it appeared in the Sunday Mirror, it in fact never did. Elizabeth Freud and the Palmer family have publicly dismissed these articles out of hand. Both Freud and Parkes have both publicly stated in writing that Geraldine Edwards was engaged to Robert Palmer at the time of his death and that their client and Mary Ambrose had broken-up in early 2003. There is also a blog on a MetaFilter site that reads more like an article outlining Robert Palmer and Mary Ambrose's relationship that contains no factual information. Elizabeth Freud has outright said that she believes that blog was placed on Mary Ambrose's behalf by Nick Krewen, due to the writing style. Robert Palmer did not give any of these three interviews.

Was Mary Ambrose who dated Robert Palmer in Paris with Robert Palmer when he died a Sun article stated this but I think they were wrong according to other info?

No she was not. At the time of Robert Palmer's death, he was no longer involved with Mary Ambrose romantically. The Sun article quote's Ambrose as calling the front desk of the Warwick de berri hotel and saying "My husband is not well. Call an ambulance. I beg you, call an ambulance." That conversation never took place as Mary Ambrose was not in Paris, France with Robert Palmer at the time of his death. What's more, Mary Ambrose was never married to Robert Palmer and he certainly was not her husband at any time. The person who was vacationing with Robert Palmer in Paris at the time of his death was Jack Bruce, in addition to which Robert Palmer was engaged to Geraldine Edwards by September of 2003, who happened to be one of the two inspirations for Penny Lane in Almost Famous, the other being Bebe Buell. Robert Palmer had been seriously dating her since his divorce from his second wife, Susan Palmer, in late 1999. Ambrose was not anywhere near Paris at the time of Robert Palmer's death.

Who is the person that discovered that the singer Robert Palmer had died on September 26 2003?

Mick Carter, Robert Palmer's former manager, was the first person to discover that Robert Palmer had passed away. Although Robert Palmer had terminated Mick Carter prior to his death, they had arranged to meet at the French television studio where Palmer was to make an appearance that morning to complete a personal business matter. Mick Carter arrived at the studio for the meet, however, Robert Palmer did not arrive. Robert Palmer was known to be professional and prompt about his appearances and his non-appearance caused Carter to become concerned. Palmer had been experiencing some health problems prior to his death, suffering from Hypertension and Mitral Valve Prolapse, a congenital heart condition and was taking medication for both conditions. Mick Carter went to the Warwick de berri Hotel, where Robert Palmer was staying after Palmer did not respond to phone calls and had not checked out with the front desk. The manager of the Warwick de berri agreed to a welfare check due to Robert Palmer's health problems and opened the door after announcing himself for several minutes. Mick Carter entered the room and discovered that Robert Palmer had passed away. The Coronor's Offices were then informed and the press was notified of Robert Palmer's death. Robert Palmer was staying alone in Paris, France, at the time of his death. Robert Palmer's close friend, Jack Bruce, was also staying at the Warwick de berri Hotel at the same time that Palmer was there, and the two had taken the opportunity to spend time with one another while there. Jack Bruce was the last person to dine with Robert Palmer prior to his death on the 26th of September, 2003. Bruce was attending a social engagement at the time of Robert Palmer's death.

Why did the late Robert Palmers manager Mick Carter make so many errors in reportage after Robert Palmers death?

It can be chalked up to a lack of knowledge about his client. Although Carter was personal friends with Robert Palmer, he did not know a lot about his personal life and that is where the reporting errors cropped up. They started with Carter reporting Mary Ambrose as Robert Palmer's partner vacationing with him in Paris at the time of his death. Robert Palmer's companion at the time of his death was Geraldine Edwards. The reason for this misreport was that Carter and Ambrose were very close and had a child together in 2001. According to Carter, he took Ambrose at her word, and announced Ambrose's name to the press. In addition to this, Carter announced Robert Palmer's divorce date from Susan Palmer as 1991. The correct divorce date was in 1999. He also quoted that Robert Palmer was in "Perfect Health" prior to his death. That was not correct. Robert Palmer was suffering from Hypertension and was being treated medically for that condition. Jack Bruce, another of Mick Carter's client's, was vacationing with Robert Palmer in Paris, France at the time of his death, not Mary Ambrose. And finally, Mick Carter reported that Robert Palmer was only married once and had only two children. Robert Palmer was married twice and had five children. His final reporting faux pas was telling the press that Robert Palmer was to be buried at his home in Lugano, Switzerland. That is not correct. There was a Memorial Service for Robert Palmer in Lugano, Switzerland, however, Robert Palmer was buried in London, England.

Is it true that Jack Bruce and Marianne Faithfull fired Mick Carter Robert Palmers manager after he deliberatley misprepresented facts about Palmer to the press after his death?

Yes. Both fired Mick Carter after his bizarre reporting after Robert Palmer's death. He point blank lied about the circumstances of Robert Palmer's life for personal reasons that suited him. He gave the name of the wrong woman as Robert Palmer's companion at the time of his death. He named Mary Ambrose, a past casual date of Robert Palmer's as his companion, when his girlfriend was Geraldine Edwards. Palmer himself mentioned Geraldine's name in his last interview. Carter also said Mary Ambrose was in Paris with Robert Palmer vacationing when he died. That was a complete lie. Robert Palmer was vacationing with Jack Bruce, and Carter knew that because he was also in Paris at the time that Robert Palmer died. He also grandly announced that Robert Palmer was married and divorced only once, and only had two children. Palmer was married twice and had five children. He also insisted that Robert Palmer was going to be buried in Switzerland. Palmer was interred in London, England, by his family. And then he announced that Robert Palmer was in perfect health. Palmer suffered from Hypertension and Mitral Valve Prolapse. The man sounded like a lying fool, which he was. Marianne Faithfull fired him one week after his misreports, alarmed at his behavior. And on a humorous note, Jack Bruce gave Carter a punch in the nose for his antics and then fired him. Jack Bruce did it with style. On an even funnier note, Carter had a child in 2001 with Mary Ambrose, the woman he annnounced as Robert Palmer's companion. Carter performed quite a song and dance to cover for himself after his client Robert Palmer's death. On an even funnier note, Carter went out of business in 2004 due to his weird behavior after Robert Palmer's death. His judgment could no longer be trusted in a professional vernacular.

What was Robert Palmer really like?

Robert Palmer was articulate, intelligent and talented. He was a friend to many. Robert Palmer once said " I consider myself a work in progress." And that is how he truly felt. Although his fame as a musician recommended him, Robert Palmer never rested on his laurels. Robert Palmer, prior to his death, was in the process of acquiring Compendium Records, an independent Danish Label. He was also signed to that label since 2002. He was going to add "entrepreneur" to his list of credits. Robert Palmer was a successful businessman and invested well over the years. Robert Palmer routinely donated a considerable amount of money to UNICEF but preferred to remain anonymous regarding this. Robert Palmer did leave a final charitable donation to UNICEF in his Last Will and Testament. The amount was substantial. Prior to Robert Palm's death, he was planning on selling his Estate in Luciano, Switzerland and relocating to Los Angele's, California with his girlfriend, Geraldine Edwards. Robert Palmer was slated to return to the studio in October of 2003 to start work on his new recording.

Why did some articles refer to Mary Ambrose Robert Palmers ex-girlfriend as his girlfriend of twenty years when they dated for three years and broke up in 2003?

The reason for the misreports are simple; Mick Carter, representing himself as Robert Palmer's manager provided this information to the press and they printed it, taking him at his word. Unfortunately, by the time Robert Palmer had died, Mick Carter had been fired. He made a series of dubious reports about his former client, Robert Palmer, after his death, in a forty-eight hour time period proceeding Robert Palmer's death. When the facts were brought to bear i.e. that Mick Carter had been fired prior to Robert Palmer's death, he was legally stopped from making any further announcements about Robert Palmer. But in that forty-eight hour time period issuing a series of false reports regarding Robert Palmer, he had done a lot of damage. These are the correct facts about Mary Ambrose vis-a-vis her relationship with Robert Palmer. Mary Ambrose dated Robert Palmer from mid-2000 to early 2003. She had met him socially in 1995 in Coronado, California, but the two did not date until mid-2000, when Robert Palmer hired Ambrose as his live-in Estate Manager and Personal Assistant. Prior to that he had been married to his second wife, Susan Eileen Thatcher until 1999. The relationship between Robert Palmer and Mary Ambrose was not monagamous, and Robert Palmer ended his personal relationship with her in early 2003. The entire time that Robert Palmer was dating Mary Ambrose he was also involved with Geraldine Edwards, who he represented as his girlfriend. By early 2003, Robert Palmer and Geraldine Edwards had become engaged and were looking for a home together in the Los Angeles area. In Robert Palmer's last Access Hollywood interview prior to his death, he announced Geraldine Edwards name as that of his girlfriend he had recently become engaged to. The motivation for Mick Carter deliberatly misreporting Mary Ambrose's name as Robert Palmer's girlfriend was also simple. He was close friends with her, the two having a son together in 2001, and more importantly, Mick Carter was told by Mary Ambrose that she was going to be the sole inheritor of the Estate of Robert Palmer which was valued at $54 million dollars. One can surmise that Mick Carter saw money in his future coming from the Estate. He was willing to report any information that Mary Ambrose provided him with to the press. In addition to that, Mick Carter disliked Geraldine Edwards, Robert Palmer's fiancee, intently. She was partly responsible for Robert Palmer auditing his accounts which led directly to the firing of Carter. Later, the entire house of cards fell apart when friends and family members of Robert Palmer's came forward to report the situation in a public way. Mary Ambrose's family was instrumental in correcting the record, their actions were honorable. They were the first to point out that Mary Catherine Ambrose was only twenty-six years old at the time of Robert Palmer's death, and that for some strange reason she tried to start representing her name as Mary Frances Ambrose. They made perfectecly clear what Mary Ambrose's name was and how old she was, which was that her name was Mary Catherine Ambrose, not Mary Frances, and that she was born in June of 1977, making her twenty-six years old at the time of Robert Palmer's death. Her brother Michael Ambrose Jr, made a funny statement to the press, saying "I know my sister was not dating Robert Palmer when she was six years old." The incorrect information provided by some articles can be laid at the door of Mick Carter exclusively, when he chose to misreport the facts to suit himself and Mary Ambrose.

How did Mary Ambroses name get attached to the singer Robert Palmers obituaries when I heard Robert Palmer announce Geraldine Edwards as his girlfriend on Access Hollywood shortly before his death?

According to Robert Palmer himself in interviews, his close friends, and his family members, Geraldine Edwards was his girlfriend at the time of his death. She had been his girlfriend since Palmer's divorce from Susan in 1999. Mary Ambrose was a woman who casually dated Robert Palmer from 2000 to 2003 and who worked for Palmer as his Estate Manager and his Personal Assistant for that same period of years. According to Peter Bascombe, a close Palmer friend, as well as others that knew Palmer, Mary Ambrose was definintely not considered Robert Palmer's girlfriend. Mary Ambrose even had two children from friends and acquaintances of Robert Palmer while employed by him and dating him. One Palmer friend, Leo Stapleton, who also worked with Palmer professionally, stated publicly that Palmer referred to Mary Ambrose as "the arrangement" because she was simply there, not unlike Mt. Everest. He did not consider her his primary relationship. Palmer had met Mary Ambrose socially in 1995 at a party in San Diego, California. How her name came to be attached to the obituaries was because Robert Palmer's manager, Mick Carter, announced Mary Ambroses' name to the press as Robert Palmer's girlfriend in error. The press then reported Ambroses' name upon Carter's word. Carter was very fond of Mary Ambrose and in fact had a child with her in 2001. His excuse to one one Palmer friend, Joey Faahar, was "I felt that I should do it for Mary. She loved him so much. And she did live with him." When Faahar pointed out that she lived with him as his Estate Manager and Personal Assistant, Carter replied "That doesn't matter. She was living there." Shortly thereafter, Carter was legally enjoined from announcing Mary Ambrose as Robert Palmer's girlfriend, but he had caused a tremendous amount of upset and confusion in the meanwhile.

Is it true that Mary Ambrose Robert Palmers Estate Manager and sometimes date tried to sell a story to the tabloids stating that she and Robert Palmer had gotten secretly married in 1996?

Mary Ambrose was twenty-six years old at the time of Robert Palmers death, according to her late mother, Linda Ambrose. According to Mary Ambrose's brother Michael, she was born on June 9, 1977. For reasons that nobody could ascertain, Mary Ambrose herself and Mick Carter started announcing her age as thrity-six years old at the time of Robert Palmers death and that information got into print. Unfortunately for Mary Ambrose, people who did actually know her reported her correct age, ending the charade that she was a decade older.

Was Robert palmer gay?

The singer Robert Palmer was definintely not gay. He was married from 1972 to 1978 to Shelly Palmer. They had three children together. He was married from 1980 to 1999 to Susan Palmer. They had two children together. And he was heavily involved with Geraldine Edwards from 1999 until his death in 2003. Geraldine is the woman Almost Famous was written about.
