Derived from the latin and Greek for True Image, she is a Biblical character and the namesake of the play Veronica:s Veil- which had a portrait of Christ miraculously printed as she wiped his head on the road to Calvary. For fairly obvious reasons, she (St. Veronica) is the patroness of Photography and there is or was a Veronica camera shop in Jerusalem, said to be hangout of Mossad agents. An act of charity rewarded by a memorable image- and patroness of an occupation that did not exist for many cen turies after her time. True Image indeed.
