conway had 9 gold and 1 platinum albums, along with 44 billboard #1's. his total single/album sales for his rock n roll period was 16 million. his total sales for his country period is 24 million. this places conway along side george Jones, merle haggard, johnny cash, Alan Jackson. but far short of hank Thompson (60 mil.) eddy Arnold (80 mil) and Garth brooks (100mil+)
I believe it was Harlan Howard that told Conway To come to Nashville & cut a country Album and get out of rock and roll & also Owen Bradley Helped Conway& he was inspired by Hank Williams Seniors Music that's who Inspired him in Country music sincerely Patricia Hardy from Dryden Ontario Canada
"Don't Cry Joni" was released in August of 1975 by Conway Twitty on MCA Records. It was on the album "High Priest of Country Music". I heard that she relunctant to tape it at first, but her dad told her they just needed her to sing the part at first, & then they'd put another voice in later. Joni Lee was the child at that time interested in a music career. Michael Twitty has had quite a bit of success in his country music career. Kathy Twitty also recorded a song with her dad that's on one of his albums. I really liked her voice!
That was the album with the same name! Conway named most of his albums after a hit song(s) on that record. He made 110 albums, some are available on eBay at really reasonable prices! Then, if you have access to one of those new turntable/software programs, you could copy them to cds! My husband and I are in the midst of that process now! I have about 20 of his albums, and almost as many cds, which I listen to at work every day. He's the best!
