Answer: This is going to be really hard to answer because I am sure there are small town companies that specialize a certain type of guitar that no one's heard of. That may sound unlikely, but it could be true you never know.
Anyway, here is a list of some TYPES of guitars, not BRANDS or COMPANIES. (i.e. Ibanez, Gibson.) Feel free to add any that aren't included in the list.

There are many, MANY types of guitars. But that's after you break them into the twomajor groups; electric and acoustic. Electric guitars can come with (I've seen) 6, 7, 8, or 12 strings, (you could probably custom order an electric with any number of strings) have 1-5 necks on a single guitar, or be a hollow body or a hybrid acoustic with an amp plug. Acoustics are a little less versatile. A double necked acoustic is unheard of in my book, and usually comes with 6 or 12 strings, (excluding special orders)
acoustic guitars, electric guitars, classical nylon string guitars and acoustic guitars with a pickup on them that allows them to be plugged in like an electric guitar but can have an acoustic sound to it
Electric, acoustic, twelve-string guitars, 5 archtop, steel, resonator, bass, and double neck guitars.

Acoustic guitars have been around for longer than anyone can know. Old guitar like objects are often found that are dated way back when. There are also many diffrent types of guitars. I'll do my best to list them and the dates they were found below. As for electric guitars, my personal favorite of the many different kinds, were founded in the 1930s by George Beauchamp.Renaissance and Baroque guitars: 1674sClassical guitars: 1817-1892sFlat-top (steel-string) guitars: 1840sArchtop guitars: 1856-1918sSelmer-Maccaferri guitars: 1893-1988s

There are different types of guitars like acoustic, rock, and electric.
Electric guitars are cool because they add a jam to a country song or a helping hand in creating the best music ever! But I don't care if you like different kinds of music. That's called personality!
There are literally thousands of different guitars, with new ones constantly being made.
