First, we all feel depressed sometimes, and music can be a wonderful way to take your mind off of having a sad day. It should be noted, however, that if you are often depressed, it may be caused by a treatable illness, and you should absolutely discuss it with a doctor. That said, I'm a former disc jockey, and I have a number of songs I love to listen to in the car. I turn them up loud, and they make me feel better. I particularly like songs I can sing along with, whose lyrics have an encouraging message. I don't know what kind of music you prefer, but here's a few that work for me.
I've always liked the chorus to "Tub-Thumping" by Chumbawamba: "I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never gonna keep me down." And I like the lyrics to "Closing Time" by Semisonic-- particularly the part about "every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." More recently, the Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling" is a great song for cheering anyone up, and so is Cee Lo Green's "Forget You" (or the dirty version, the lyrics of which I won't quote here). Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" sounds great, and so does Kelly Clarkson's "What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger." And I send along one to you: Pink's big hit song "Perfect."
Personally, I would choose old Patsy Cline songs. These are extremely depressing tunes. You might assume that playing upbeat music would lift one's mood, but there are theories about the benefit of "bottoming out" by allowing yourself to acknowledge your sadness and feel it under controlled circumstances until it has passed.
