∙ 11y agoThe highest selling Rolling Stones Album is Hot Rocks. It has sold more than 12 million copies. This is a greatest hits compilation which only spans the years 1964-1971.
While not the highest in total sales, probably their most notorious masterpiece is Exile On Main Street. An authentic album with a tragic, yet relentlessly onwards continuum to playing Rock n Roll at any cost ...hence the line "just as long as the guitar plays" on the track "Torn and Frayed" from this work.
The Rolling Stones have more than a hand full of classic releases and
many high quality albums in their repertoire.
Often seen as their top four albums are most notably:
Exile On Main Street
Let It Bleed
Beggars Banquet
Sticky Fingers
Incredibly, these albums were released back to back during the years 1968-1972. All were big successes and all are seen as real classics. This is very possibly the most productive series of consecutive releases any music group has ever recorded.
Some of their other albums that should get honorable mention and/or are often seen as classics are: Some Girls, Tattoo You, Goat's Head Soup, and Aftermath. Their latest release, A Bigger Bang (2005), should be added to this second list as well for it's over all solidity and masculine sound.
While their musical core has never changed (American Rhythm and Blues based Rock) , other influences in all kinds of Music Genres runs throughout their albums. Each of The Rolling Stone's albums has it's own sort of feel, sound, and mood while still carrying the common distinguished characteristics of a Stones work. All have their own little place on the shelf.
