If you hire pest control, it can take up to a year to rid a home of all of them. They can stay in the same place (such as a wall) for long periods of time. Scorpions can go without food, but not without water. If a wall is damp, a scorpion will stay in that spot for a long time, and sometimes breed.
If you close as many cracks and entry spots as you can, it will help. I like to take a black light outside at night and find them (they glow). I own a local pest control company in south Texas and they are a big problem here. I have found homes that have 20-30 a day. We tend to treat the lawn with water-activated products to provide a longer-life chemical treatment. They come from the outside into the house, so the more you can do outside to stop them, the better. Inside treatments are needed as well - but the outside is the key.

Yes there absolutely are scorpions in Arkansas. The only species found in AR is the striped bark scorpion, and they tend to come out in April, May, and June. My wife and I counted 19 in our house last summer :O.
Scorpions come out July-September at night.
