If you are referring to her song, 'Mercedes Benz', where she says, "Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ...', then you have your answer.
Janis Joplis never owned a Mercedez Benz, despite the song: Mercedes Benz. Janis Joplis actually opted for a 1965 Porsche, like her friends in the song.

Years ago, Janis Joplin sang a song...I believe it was on her PEARL album....the song contained lyrics..."Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz, my friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends...." BIG SONG AT THE TIME. I hope this is the answer you were looking for. DM

Her Last Recording Was a Birthday Greeting for John LennonThe last recordings Joplin completed were 'Mercedes-Benz' and a birthday greeting for John Lennon. On Oct. 1, 1970, Joplin recorded the old Dale Evans cowboy tune 'Happy Trails' for the former Beatle, which is sort of spooky given the lyrics are "Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again." The tune was titled 'Happy Birthday, John (Happy Trails)' and released on the Janis box set in 1993. Lennon told talk show host Dick Cavett that her taped greeting arrived at his home after her passing.
Mercedes Benz makes Mercedes Benz cars. Mercedes Benz is a division of the German company Daimler.
Mercedes is just short for "Mercedes-Benz."
