I was a sound engineer for GNR once back in the 80's. I've hung out with them too. From my experience he seems to prefer a Les Paul modified with heavier strings. He has a tech that mods all his Guitars. So, the answer is, it depends on the song. I've seen him use several. I do know that he uses a drop tuning, 2 steps on most songs. If anyone else can give us more info please do.
