If you watch his video done by Fret 12 on YouTube Ben explains why he plays on baritones instead of a standard guitar due to a standard's inability to handle being tuned down to A#. (Low string tuned to A# which is 3 1/2 steps down from E, the standard tuning for a standard guitar.) Ben has two baritones which are identical in all aspects except for color, both are signed by Paul Reed Smith himself.
