What guitar has the best sustain?

Well my friend there is A LOT to this. Change strings every month. Make sure your ACTION isn't TOO low, or your pickups too close to the strings. Make sure your frets aren't buzzing or are too beat up (get a fret job). Make sure your nut and bridge are not dirty. Quality hardware too! a nice bridge nut and tuners will improve this. Last but not least the quality and thickness of the wood. Heavy good quality guitar will ring forever at mid volume.

Have been playing Guitars for over 25years Have gigged with Strats, Les Pauls, Sgs, and various other lesser known models Of the better known guitars a good Les Paul has very good sustain. For the longest sustain a Yamaha SG-2000 is the ultimate (ala Santana).. The bridge is fixed to a brass block inside the solid mahogany body, you can feel the guitar vibrate when you play, it holds its notes forever if played through a tube amp. I have an early model #001421 and i would not trade it for any guitar. The only drawback is its weight which can kill you shoulder during a long set. and the price which is expensive if bought new. Generally speaking the denser and heavier the wood the better for sustain, and one piece guitars fare better than bolt on necks Don't forget the Fernandes sustainer -- what U2's The Edge uses on some of his active guitars. While it's not "natural" sustain, apparently this device can make a guitar sustain almost indefinitely.
