I believe June may have been a couple of years older than Johnny. Johnny was born in 1932. When the Carter Family broke up in 1943, Maybelle Carter brought her daughters June, Helen, and Anita into the act. They would be known as Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters.
June Carter Cash is one of the Carter Sisters, who were on stage with their mother, Mother Maybelle Carter, the famous woman who played in the Original Carter Family with the brother of her husband. June was the second of the 3 sisters; Helen and Anita the others.

June Carter Cash got her music education from the famous, Carter Family. Maybelle, A.P. (Alan Pleasant), and Sara Carter, which was the Carter Family, were country music's first commercially successful "traditional" act. Their first hit, was "Wildwood Flower," in 1928. The next hit would be, "Keep on the Sunny Side," also in 1928. In 1943, A.P. and Sara retired from music. Maybelle continued to perform with her daughters (June, Anita, and Helen), as Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters. Some other hits for the Carter Family included: "Gold Watch and Chain" ~ "Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes" ~ "The Worried Man Blues" ~ "Will the Circle be Unbroken" ~ and "Hello Stranger." The Carter Family was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1970.
"In the Highway," a song by Maybelle Carter of the Carter Family. "Mother Maybelle" Carter was the actual mother of June Carter, the second wife of Johnny Cash. As with all music published prior to 1989, the composition would have needed proper copyright notice on it, which is almost certain, given that it was the family business. It would therefore be copyrighted for 95 years from date of publication. Each recording of each performance of anyone singing the song would also have its own copyright, again typically for 95 years (unless recorded and published prior to 1972, in which case it would only be covered by state copyright laws, which NEVER expire).
