The Dixie Chicks are an all female, Texas based country music group consisting of three main members: Martie Maguire, Emily Robison and Natalie Maines. They formed in 1989 playing country and bluegrass music. Their hits include Wide Open Spaces, Cowboy Take Me Away, Without You, Top Of The World (Patty Griffin), and Landslide (Stevie Nicks). Fans felt betrayed. Correction: some fans felt betrayed. Many more agreed with the statements. After that, there was an attempt to blacklist the Dixie Chicks. Some Country radio stations boycotted their music. The Dixie Chicks stood their ground, and went on with their careers. At the 2007 Grammy Awards they sang a song titled "Not Ready To Make Nice", in defiance of the attempts to pressure them to apologize. Now it's 2009. The Dixie Chicks are still around, still singing. Score one for Freedom of Speech. "I apologized for disrespecting the office of the President," says Maines. "But I don't feel that way anymore. I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever." -- Time, 5/21/06" Haha, Natalie is pretty damn brave to stand her ground like that. A very admirable woman.
