He composed Classical Music almost exclusively for the piano. Chopin's style was Romantic. But the type of music he composed in was classical, as opposed to jazz or rock 'n roll, for instance.

All of his compositions included the piano. Before he had totally abandoned the orchestra in 1831, he wrote some works for piano and orchestra: Variations on "La ci darem la mano" (Opus 2 in B flat); two piano concertos (Opus 11 in E minor and Opus 21 in F minor); Krakowiak Rondo (Opus 14 in F) and Fantasy on Polish Airs (Op 13 in A). Other compositions include piano duets (cello) and piano trios (violin and cello).

His compositions for solo piano include 4 scherzi, 4 ballades, 26 preludes, 24 etudes, 19 nocturnes, waltzes, mazurkas and polonaises. Rondo in C for two pianos (Opus 73) is his exclusive composition for two pianos.
