Tejano Music was coined (first said or established) in the early 1980's. It was a product of the combination of La Onda Chicana and Conjunto Music. To understand the roots of Tejano Music you must understand that at one time it was two distinctive music groups. La Onda Chicana's past goes back to Chicano music and even further before all the way back to Beto Villas Orquestra and even further back. On the Conjunto end it can be traced back as far as Conjunto Bernal and further. Currently the origins of Tejano Music are still argued and do not have a set form of definitions. There are a few pioneers of Tejano music still alive and around for information. You might want to try locating Marcelo Tafoya he was the first lifetime achievement award winner at the Tejano Music Awards (TTMA) and was the first DJ to play Tejano Music on the air fulltime. Tejano became big in the 90's when the "Queen Of Tejano" music Selena, burst onto the scene. After her death on March 31st 1995 the world was shock but as her music carried on by making her first English album that was released pothumously, she became one of the fastest selling females in the world, the first hispanic singer to go number 1 on the Billboard Pop Chart, one of the most succesfull latin artists in the world, and has appeared in the Guinness Book Of World Records 1999 as "Most Dominating Artist". IMPROVE: Narciso Martinez (R.I.P.) is the Father of Conjunto Music starting back in the 1930's. In our Tejano Music Culture we have Conjunto, Chicano, Tejano, Tex-Mex and Tejano Orchestra Classic Music. Tejano Music & Entertainment is Unique, there is no comparison. That why we called it, Our Unique Tejano Music & Entertainment. In our Tejano Culture we have Tejano Bands and Tejano Music Bands. Tejano Music Bands plays only Tejano Music. Nowadays, Tejano Music Bands might play Tejano and Country Music. while Tejano Bands might play, Conjunto, Chicano, Tex-Mex or Norteno Music. Norteno Bands are from Northern Mexico while Tejano Bands are from Texas. Please, try not to confuse Norteno or Banda Bands with Tejano Bands or versus. Tejano Music is influenced by basically all type of genre's from Conjunto and Orquestra to Country, Rap, Hip-Hop, and more. It just depends on which group at what time. Tejano Music is more of a style then a set genre, you would literally have to break it up in to sub-genre's like Tejano Conjunto, Tejano Pop, etc...

Lydia Mendoza was famous for her Tejano and Norteno music. She became popular throughout Latin America in 1940 and 1950. She played a 12 string guitar as she sang. She started singing at a young age with her family.
