Monel is a hard-wearing nickel and copper alloy. Piston valves in brass intruments may often be made of monel, amongst other materials including stainless steel.
Trumpets date back to 1500 BCE, but trumpets did not have valves until 1793 AD and did not take off until 1818.
Egypt, Greece, and Africa. These trumpets had no valves. The valve trumpet was introduced in 1814 in Berlin by Heinrich Stozel.
Pre-valve trumpets they were either natural or keyed trumpets. They didn't have valves. They weren't invented until 1822.
All trumpets are played with a mouthpiece, getting their vibrations to create sound from the players lips. Modern trumpets have valves, but there are also other types of trumpets with finger holes, or with no fingering system at all, as in the case of the medieval trumpet.

They're like trumpets without valves.

French horns do have valves, but not the same kind trumpets use. Trumpets use pistons, and french horns use Rotary Valves. However, a marching french horn, a melophone, does have piston valves.
Normally they're called valves. There are some trumpets out there with rotary valves, which are often just called keys.
You can, but it doesn't work as well or as long as valve oil.
There are several types of trumpet; the most common is a transposing instrument pitched in B♭ with a tubing length of about 148 cm. Earlier trumpets did not have valves, but modern instruments generally have either three piston valves or, more rarely, three rotary valves. Each valve increases the length of tubing when engaged, thereby lowering the pitch. The trumpet is used in many forms of music, including classical music and jazz.
well, it is hard to say, as they sort of 'evolved.' Numerous early cultures, such as those in Africa and Australia, developed hollow, straight tubes for use as megaphones in religious rites. These early "trumpets" were made from the horns or tusks of animals, or cane. but they changed slowly over the years as people discovered what they could do with them. Trumpets are among the oldest musical instruments dating back to at least 1500 BC. Older trumpets did not have valves; however, modern trumpets have either three piston valves or three rotary valves, each of which increases the length of tubing when engaged, thereby lowering the pitch. if you need anymore info on trumpets, just message me.
Because three valves are all that is required to play the notes and harmonics required for its range. PS Some trumpets have four valves. This is to allow a change in pitch which extends the range of the instrument.
