The Beatles gained popularity very quickly because, at the time, there was nothing else like them. There was no such thing as a 'boyband' at the time and they made music which the general public could relate to.
Throughout their career they made many albums and covered many different genres. If you were to listen to Revolver, and then listen to Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, you would have a great difficulty in spotting similiarites between the two, with the exception of the singer.
Because of this they have mantained a loyal fan-base, are still classed as the best boyband of all time (although some fans would disagree with this classification) and are the highest selling musical act of all time, being one of only two acts to sell over a Billion albums (the other being Elvis Presley).
