Hardcore Techno Music is a general category for several types of music. This can include Music Genres such as UK Hardcore and Gabber, which are most likely the two most popular versions of Hardcore Techno music. In a sense, it can be considered the "heavy metal" of electronic dance music.

The characteristic that most all hardcore has in common is that the beats per minute (bpm) are faster in comparison to other Electronic Dance Music genres such as house, trance, or even hardstyle music. Normally, hardcore music is over 160 bpm. Genres such as Gabber range from 160-220 bpm, while much harder variations range such as Speedcore can go from 300 to even an ear-splitting 500 bpm! Also much hardcore also contains hard atonal bass kicks that have been heavily distorted.

Some hardcore genres take some getting used to before one can just jump in and enjoy...However, the one hardcore genre that is most "listenable" to the "untrained ear" is probably UK Hardcore or Happy Hardcore...it's also the cheesiest of them all though. There are some genres, however, that one may never get used to. For some types of people, the speed of these genres are waytoo fast to call music. (speedcore, terrorcore, or extratone).

Once a person gets used to listening to hardcore though, it can be a very interesting genre to listen to.
