Mike Portnoy has played in a lot of bands such as Liquid Tension Experiment, Transatlantic and Yellow Matter Custard (a Beatles Cover Band), but is most known for founding Dream Theater with John Petrucci and John Muyng in 1985, which he left September 8th. He is currently touring with Avenged Sevenfold following the passing of their original drummer James "The Rev" Sullivan. He also played the drums on Avenged Sevenfold's latest album, "Nightmare".
