What is the idea of American Idiot?

It is about three boys from a small town who think there that there has to be something more besides there town. One boy gets into drugs and falls in love. Because of his addiction he looses the girl. One joins the military and meets a girl. The other gets a girl pregnant so he must stay with her in the small town.

In the end all three come home again. Green Day's music explains the story beautifully. If you are even considering seeing the show you absolutely must.

Green Day wrote "American Idiot" to protest the years of the Bush Administration. This song came out with the album called "American Idiot" in September 2004, and the United States was in the midst of the war in Iraq. Green Day was opposed to the war, and the song "American Idiot" was meant to tell people not to be American idiots who just follow the media because it is just Propaganda. They want people to think for themselves and not just blindly follow the leaders of America.

It's about a man (Johnny) having to chose between the life of living in suburbia (Jingletown) and living in drugs, sex, and partying or having a good life with a girlfriend (Whatsername) and a good job.

Unfortunately, after his past of being friends with the "Jesus Of Suburbia" (St. Jimmy) he looses his girlfriend because of his drug addiction and he can't start a life.
