The song originated as a jingle for a radio station in Oklahoma City whose call letters were KOMA. The station has just adopted a rock format and wanted to promote it. The song line "I'm busy 24 hours a day" refers to the fact that KOMA broadcast around the clock. The station's signal was strong enough to reach much of the western two-thirds of the country. A lot of KOMA's listeners liked the jingle as much as they liked a lot of its actual songs. So the jingle was changed slightly and released into the pop market. In transforming the lyrics from those of a station jingle to those of a pop song, all that had to be done was to substitute the word "come-a" for the call letters "KOMA." In the jingle, the "KOMA" refrain was meant to sound like "come-a," but it wasn't understood by those who heard it in 1959 as anything risque. All "come'a" meant to them was "tune in," as in tune in to KOMA.
