I've heard that they signed with Interscope recently but they are still on Hopeless's website and not on interscope's. Maybe this is because their CD hasn't come out yet under interscope. Not positive on this, sorry.
from what i heard from Google. they are. but maybe a second answer would be wise. *Yes, they are. They are signed to all-Christian label Solid State Records (Underoath, Living Sacrifice, Haste the Day).
Pretty much the only way to get signed to a major record label is to start out small. Get signed to an independent record label and move your way through the ranks. OR... Generate enough interest in your band through constant gigs and touring to spark the interest of a major label, get an A & R rep to scout you, blow their minds with an incredible performance(good sound, awesome stage performance, incredible audience reactions, etc) and wait for the phone call/call THEM... It's really all about getting your name out there and being a great band that plays what people want to hear.
In general producers are not signed to labels. All of their work is considered freelance. However, any label could sign a contract with a producer if both parties agreed on the terms

In general, it's not easy at all. Record labels can't survive without selling records. If your music is not good enough to sell records, then you probably wont be signed to a label. Generally it takes years of making music, and performing shows and selling cds. Thise shows labels that you can earn, and make you more likely to get signed. On the other hand you have talentless kids like Justin beener or whoever that made a youtube video and now they have a record deal. Is the record deal he has good? Not at all, but he has it.
Time can be used in all of those ways, depending upon what you are trying to do.
Yes and no, it all depends on the contract the artist signs. Many artists will be signed to multiple labels for larger distribution, especially popular and international artists (such as Hikaru Utada, whom is signed to EMI Japan and also Island Def Jam in the United States).
1960 for the Home of the Blues label.
