In general, it's not easy at all. Record labels can't survive without selling records. If your music is not good enough to sell records, then you probably wont be signed to a label. Generally it takes years of making music, and performing shows and selling cds. Thise shows labels that you can earn, and make you more likely to get signed.
On the other hand you have talentless kids like Justin beener or whoever that made a YouTube video and now they have a record deal. Is the record deal he has good? Not at all, but he has it.
