At the beginning, the nuns think of Maria as a nuisance. They sing a song called "Maria" in which they complain about different things she does, including climbing a tree, ripping her dress, wearing curlers under her habit, singing when she shouldn't be, and being late to everything. They believe she is a nice girl, but that she isn't made out to be a nun. However, they do help her later on by housing her when she runs away, allowing her to get married at the abbey, and hiding her family from the Nazis.

I believe you are confusing reality with the dramatic play- later movie called Sister Act. a female gangster impersonates a nun- and well later gets caught up in the spiritual side. Nobody with a homicide conviction would even be considered as a candidate or postulant for the Religious vocation in real life. as for singing nuns- we have the movie The Singing Nun- no crime angles there, and both the play and movie The Sound of Music.
They were cloistered nuns and weren't allowed contact with the outside world. They took a vow of stability which means they remain in the exact same convent from the day they enter until they day they die.
The portrayal of black nuns in "The Sound of Music" is not historically accurate, as the film is set in Austria during the late 1930s, a time and place where the population was predominantly white. While there were certainly people of African descent in Europe, including Austria, they were quite rare, and documented instances of black nuns during that period are limited. The film's representation reflects more modern interpretations and inclusivity rather than historical reality.
Sister Mary
In "The Sound of Music," Mother Superior lives at the Nonnberg Abbey, a convent located in Salzburg, Austria. The abbey serves as both her residence and the place where she oversees the nuns and their spiritual duties. The serene and picturesque setting of the abbey plays a significant role in the film, reflecting the themes of faith and community.
