"Colonel" Tom Parker (Elvis' manager) put Elvis in a position to the greatest entertainer, singer, performer, actor, etc. throughout most of Elvis' adult life. Colonel Parker did many things wrong, which monetarily hurt Elvis, but he did help to make Elvis famous. Lastly, his Mother believed in Elvis and his talents.
