How do you get an imaginary friend?

As you get older they fade away which is a bit sad, but this guy sold his for a grand and a half on eBay. "My imaginary friend Jon Malipieman is getting too old for me now. I am now 27 and I feel I am growing out of him." was his sales pitch. He also says "He is very friendly. Along with him, I will send you what he likes and dislikes, his favourite things to do and his personal self portrait." Maybe you could do this. Please explain to your imaginary friend what is going on before folding him into an envelope. He or she may be excited to find out they get to go to a new person. I read a story on the internet reported by a mom whose little daughter decided she didn't like her imaginary friend any more so she wrapped it up in a box and put it into the postbox at the top of the road. The next day she was crying and wanted it back, but when mommy said 'well then just call it back' the little girl said " Mommy, I can't call him back. I put a note on his box for the postman to bake him in a pie." The little girl was VERY unhappy. I'm just trying to say that although having your friend baked into a pie would get rid of him, you may regret it later.

What is wrong with a person who talks to himself?

Absolutely nothing. If you start hallucinating, such as seeing imaginary things or thinking an "imaginary friend" is real -- maybe you should talk to yourself a little less, you know what I mean? But all together, there really is nothing wrong with talking to yourself.

How come when a little kid has an imaginary friend that's generally considered perfectly normal and maybe even cute but when an adult has an imaginary friend their deemed insane and thrown in a asylum?

It's all about perception of reality. Those thrown in the "asylm" (which is nolonger an acceptable term) are out of touch with reality. It's all about the level on which the friend is percieved. If for instance the person realizes that this friend has no physical form and is only in his/her head then that person can usually function so long as there in no battle for control such as the friend telling them to do things shuch as: harm themselves, harm other, break the law, etc. In children there is little worry because children often need some one that they can talk to due to lonliness or certain types of trauma and it often helps in their development so long as at some point the child breaks free of the bond. The longer this friend is with the child the more likely it becomes that either a second personality will be formed or the child will begin to think of the friend as a corporeal being and it can become a drain on them as a person and society to a certain extent. In the end, its fine to have an imaginary friend be it pet, friend, or lover. Even an imaginary spouse is acceptable so long as you remember that he or she has no corporeal form and has no power over you. That is the line that must not be broken, ever.Answer:When the imaginary friend is the deity that your culture believes in, it is acceptable to others in your culture.
