As you get older they fade away which is a bit sad, but this guy sold his for a grand and a half on eBay.

"My imaginary friend Jon Malipieman is getting too old for me now. I am now 27 and I feel I am growing out of him." was his sales pitch. He also says

"He is very friendly. Along with him, I will send you what he likes and dislikes, his favourite things to do and his personal self portrait."

Maybe you could do this. Please explain to your imaginary friend what is going on before folding him into an envelope. He or she may be excited to find out they get to go to a new person.

I read a story on the internet reported by a mom whose little daughter decided she didn't like her imaginary friend any more so she wrapped it up in a box and put it into the postbox at the top of the road. The next day she was crying and wanted it back, but when mommy said 'well then just call it back' the little girl said " Mommy, I can't call him back. I put a note on his box for the postman to bake him in a pie." The little girl was VERY unhappy. I'm just trying to say that although having your friend baked into a pie would get rid of him, you may regret it later.
