Mozart died at a young age - just 35. Mozart tended to have a weak constitution, suffering many illnesses as a child. Among other things, he was diagnosed withsymptoms that doctors today believe were associated with any of the following: streptococcal infection, scarlet fever, a possible variant of a tuberculosis infection, rheumatic fever, smallpox, rubella, colic and even hepatitis. From age 33, Mozart began to complain of headache, depression, toothache and general malaise. Shortly before his death, he complained of extensive pain in his loins and increasing langour, whilst his hands and feet became swollen and bloated. It was never determined exactly what Mozart died from, but on his death certificate it was officially recorded that cause of death was hitziges Frieselfieber, or "heated miliary fever", referring to a rash that looks like millet seeds. New findings have suggested that he could have died from strep throat (streptococcal pharyngitis), which was a minor epidemic during the time, causing kidney infection. It is possible that the outbreak began in the city's miliary hospital. For more details on Mozart's illnesses and death, refer to the related link below. == ==
