What is the smell of gasoline and why does gasoline have a distinct odor?

Gasoline has a strong, pungent smell that is often described as sharp or chemical-like. These compounds evaporate easily at room temperature, releasing vapors that create the characteristic smell of gasoline. The human nose is sensitive to these compounds, which is why gasoline has a noticeable and recognizable odor.
