Fender says "there is always some carryover from one year to the next". Therefore your guitar is either an 02 or an early 03. Shouldn't matter much in resale price.
A Fender Stratocaster with a serial number starting with "Z" typically indicates it was manufactured in Mexico. The "Z" prefix was used for instruments produced in the late 1990s to early 2000s. You can often find more specific details about the exact year and model by checking Fender's official database or by contacting their customer service.
1984 check the pots (vol and tone) as well they will have a code 137 XX XX the first XX s the year secondis the week eg 137 84 23 is 23rd week of 1984.
Conventional wisdom would say '96. The first digit indicates country of origin, and the second letter, N, stands for the decade of production; in this case, the 90's. The first number that follows these two letters stands for the year of that decade. Example: YN5XXXXX would be '95, YN7XXXXX would be '97, etc.
The E indicates the Stratocaster was made in the eighties. Furthermore, the 4 that follows the E indicates it was made in the fourth year of the eighties. Therefore, you would think the guitar was made in 1984. Now, here's what makes it difficult. The E4 was also used on American Standards all the way up to 1988. Therefore, you guitar would have to be made from 1984 to 1988. That's the best I can do cowboy. According to the Fender website E4 series were made in 1984.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier this one would have been made in 1988.
CY indicates this is a Squier product manufactured by Yako in China (hence the CY) sometime after 1995. Unfortunately, Fender does not provide its own serialization information for Chinese-made Squier products online like it does for its other instruments. Fortunately, though, decoding this is pretty basic, and the formula is available at other sites if you do a little searching - just look at the first two numbers AFTER the CY prefix to find the year. In your case, that's "01," indicating the guitar was built in 2001.
