∙ 14y agoAccording to J. Randy Taraborelli's Michael Jackson: the Magic and the Madness, in 1963, Michael wanted to join his four older brothers in a group and when they told him he couldn't, he entered a school talent show singing "Climb Every Mountain," and their brothers told him he could join.
They played for a few years, before (circa 1967?) recording a few songs locally most notably "Big Boy."
Their first album for Motown Records, Diana Ross Presents the Jackson Five was released in 1969 along with their first #1 single, "I Want You Back."
Michael's first solo single, "Got To Be There," was released in 1971.
