The last time I heard of that happening was on Sunday, December 14, 1980 at 14:00 (2 PM) New York time.

because of the tragic, violent nature of his death it didnt seem fitting to hold a public funeral. I'm sure Lennon's family members held some type of memorial in private but didnt want to be bothered by the press or bring attention to such a horrible act of violence as a shooting. John Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono Lennon made an announcement the next day stating there would be no funeral for John, but she did hold a worldwide moment of silence in his honor and at the Imagine memorial in central park, at Abbye Road in London, and elsewhere in the world, fans mourned on their own and held their own memorial events (just not officially approved/sponsored by the Lennon family)
Peter Brown's Beatles memoir The Love You Make relates a story about the Beatles' involvement in a large LSD shipment from California to the UK, around the time of the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.Lennon was arrested in 1968 for hashish possession; he always claimed the hashish was planted in the apartment where he and Yoko Ono were staying. In a later US immigration hearing, it was determined that the prosecution's case against Lennon would not have held up, had the arrest happened in the United States.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono spent their first night on their honeymoon at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel in March 1969. They famously held a "Bed-In for Peace" during their stay, using the opportunity to advocate for peace and raise awareness about the anti-war movement. Their choice of location and the peaceful protest attracted significant media attention.
The Lennon sisters are still alive although i think one of them may have died because on the album cover it was only 3 of them Added by JanWing 4/14/11 All of the 4 Lennon Sisters are alive and well. DeeDee and Peggy have retired from entertaining except for special ocassions. Kathy and Janet have been joined by a younger sister, Mimi, and have been performing in Branson, MO. He didn't have one. Yoko Ono held a moment of silence in his honor following his death. John Lennon was cremated, and his ashes spread throughout Central Park.

I believe that the record for writing the most number one hits is held by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
The first two minutes' silence was observed in Britain on November 11, 1919, as a tribute to those who had died in World War I. This moment of reflection was part of the first Armistice Day, marking the end of the war on November 11, 1918. The silence has since become a tradition to honor fallen soldiers and is observed annually on Remembrance Day.
There are several accounts of this, in biographies of both men. The short version is that Elton John made John Lennon promise that if Lennon's 1974 single "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night" (one of two Lennon recordings he sang on that year) became a #1 chart hit, Lennon would perform at one of John's concerts. Lennon had little faith in the song, and made the promise thinking he wouldn't have to keep it. The record hit Number One a few weeks later, and John held Lennon to his promise. Lennon guest-starred at John's Thanksgiving Day concert, performing three songs with him and his band: "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night", "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" (which John had covered earlier in the year, with Lennon's blessings and collaboration), and a loose performance of "I Saw Her Standing There", an early Beatles song that none of them had actually sung onstage before. (McCartney was the lead vocalist, when the Beatles had performed it.) Nobody knew it at the time, but this turned out to be Lennon's last public performance. Both May Pang (Lennon and Yoko Ono's personal assistant, who lived with Lennon when he and Ono were separated) and Yoko Ono were also at the show; Ono in the audience, Pang backstage. Ono came backstage afterwards, and it was the first time they'd seen each other in months. Someone took a photo, and they treasured it later. They rekindled their marriage, and Lennon moved back in, with their son Sean Lennon born months later. Elton John became Sean's godfather.
John Lennon was cremated at the Ferncliff Crematory in Hartsdale, NY. He did not have a funeral service; instead, Yoko Ono asked that everyone who wished to do something in his honor spend ten minutes in silent remembrance of him the following Sunday (December 14, 1980) at 2pm EST. Lennon's ashes were returned to Ono and it is not publicly known what she did with them. It is traditional in Japan, her home country, for the dead to be cremated, sealed in a container that resembles a wrapped gift, then buried in a family plot, but it is unknown if she buried or scattered the ashes or if she still has them.
The Day of Silence is usually held in April each year. See related links for more information.
Paul McCartney's career with the Beatles began when he was 15, in 1957. He met John Lennon and "The Quarrymen" at a St. Peter's Church Hall fair in Woolton, held on July 6, 1957.
