The best way to keep guitar strings fresh is to play a little on them every day. This will also keep your guitar body in good tension, meaning that strings will sound brighter, stay in tune better, and last longer. It is a good idea to keep a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe your strings with gently (to remove moisture and skin oils) after playing - though I admit I am pretty sloppy about this.

For a leisure player (less than an hour a day) who doesn't perform changing your strings every other year is probably adequate. You will see a benefit from changing your strings more often, of course (I have friends who restring every six months as a matter of course), but if you are just playing for fun - restringing is such a drag.

If you perform, you should change your strings whenever they lose their sparkle. How often this is will depend on your ear, and your playing style; but if you use fewer than two sets of strings per year your standards are probably lower than they should be.

How do you string an Epiphone bass guitar?

When one purchases an Epiphone bass guitar, it should have the necessary strings. If the guitar needs new strings, it is best to have a professional replace the strings or follow the manual received when the guitar was purchased.

Is it bad to clean guitar strings with alcohol?

No, but you should be very careful to only use it on the strings, and not on the body of the guitar.

Why is my guitar buzzing when it is plugged in although other guitars work on this amplifier?

ok. your either not pressing hard enough on your strings,,,,or too close too the frets.....or your guitar needs a touch up... cuz your strings are too close too the neck if its a electric... on the bridge there should be some really tiny screws... tighten them...that wil raise your strings higher. or you can take it to a guitar shop or a proffessional

Can you use acoustic guitar strings for acoustic electric?

using acoustic strings on an electric does not damage the guitar. tightening them too tight does. acoustic strings tend to be thicker than electric strings, so all you have to do is just tune lower to avoid putting too much stress on the neck. i just want to know why they use different materials to make them. ============ Answer No the strings are completely different. It would be much harder to play an electric even if for some reason you did put them on. And you definitely don't want to mix the two! ================ I'd be inclined to think that stringing thicker, shorter acoustic strings on an electric guitar would actually damage the electric guitar. It wasn't built to withstand that kind of string tension. The reverse can be done -- using electric strings on an acoustic guitar -- but you won't get a great deal of tone or attack. Great for a very easy-playing acoustic guitar for songwriting and low-volume playing, though.

How often should you replace guitar strings and how do you replace them?

I went in a guitar shop to buy new strinds and was asking what the best brand was to use and they eventually asked me when the last time I replaced my strings was and I said never (Ive had the guitar for about 6 years) and their faces literally hit the floor. They told me that if you are a moderate player then replacing your strings every 3-6 months is good. Thats for an acoustic, I dont know about any electric (same old strings on that too) Musicians change their strings after every gig. It depends on how much you play and your personal taste. Acoustic is easy to replace. Just place and wind up. Electric is a little harder. I take mine to a guitar shop when I want new strings and have them do it. It requires opening up the belly of the guitar and I dont trust myself. If it is a day to day playing basis then I would change at least every 2 weeks. If it is just for fun every now and again, changing strings a minimum of every couple months is a very good idea. There are instructions online

What is the difference between Bass Guitar and Electric Guitar. What else should you buy with your first one?

A bass guitar has a longer neck and only four strings while an electric guitar has six strings. For both I would say buy an amp and most likely lessons as well, but if this is a little out of the budget, the amps is not needed and while lessons would help, a simple guitar/bass method book should suffice. An electric guitar is louder and a ''lead'' guitar. A bass,is lower pitch/sound to keep the song balenced. NOTE:if you wear headphones while listing to a song, you'll here the bass.

How many strings should a starter in guitar use?

6 strings like normal you weirdo

Can I combine guitar strings with bass strings on an electric guitar and if so what thickness should I use?

Thought I've never tried this, I highly doubt using bass strings on a guitar would work. First of all, the bass string likely wouldn't fit inside a guitar's tuning peg. Also, the action on a guitar simply wouldn't work with a bass string. As far as pickups go, I'm not sure what bass frequencies would do to a guitar pickup, but i wouldn't try.

What gauge of guitar strings work best for what sound and style of playing?

The guage of guitar strings that work best for sound will depend on the type of guitar that is being played. A person should consider guitar strings that are under a 10 guage to avoid bending.

If someone plays guitar and no sound comes out are you plucking it too hard?

Well, that matters. If it's an acoustic guitar, and no sound comes out, that could never happen. But if it's an electric guitar you're talking about, either the amps not on, the volume is not up on the guitar or amp, or the cord that leads from the amp to the guitar input jack is bad. You should be able to hear a slight noise from an electric guitar even with the amp malfunctioning or switched off, since the strings do make slight vibrations in airspace anyway. Perhaps they have their hand or arm muting the strings?
