Linkin Park was founded in 1996 by high school friends Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Rob Bourdon. Joe Hahn, Mark Wakefield with Dave Farrell (aka Phoenix) were recruited when M.Shinoda,B.Delson and R.Bourdon finished high school and decided to take their music more seriously. The band back then was called Xero. They've also released their demo tape (Xero demo tape) also in 1996.But Wakefield and Farell left the band because of the tension between the bandmates caused by the lack of success trying to land a record deal.Xero was trying to find a replacement for a vocalist (who was M.Wakefield) for a long time until Jeff Blue refered Chester Bennington to Xero in March of 1999. Bennington find out that he was recuited on his 23rd birthday and at the same day started recording his vocals. The band changed their name to Hybrid Theory, because of the concept of mixing different genres and making their unique style. In May of 1999 Hybrid Theory released their self-called EP (Hybrid Theory EP).But for some reason, the guys had to change their name.At first, they wanted to call it Lincoln Park but there already was a site on that name. However C.Bennington suggested to call it Linkin Park. The band loved the name and the record company were fine with it....
