They were origanilly Xero, then chester bennington came and they changed the name to hybrid theory, but were threatened with a lawsuit by the hybrid project, so they changed to Linkin Park. it is a name of a New York park: Lincoln park but they changed their name from it to LINKIN PARK but spelled different.

When the band was started by Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson, they were named Xero for no apparent reason.

When Chester joined the band they called it Hybrid Theory, so that when people listened to the music they would probably get a general idea of what they were about to hear.

They had to change the name when they signed to Warner Bros. records because of some sort of issues in legality.

Chester used to walk by a park called "Lincoln Park." They were going to name it that, but it was already taken. So, they ended up with Linkin Park.

First of all, the band was called Xero, but it was renamed to Hybrid Theory when Linkin Park landed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records in 1999. (Earlier than that, Chester Bennington joined the band. He replaced Mark Wakefield who was the vocalist in Xero.) Dispite all of this, there were some problems: under the label there already was a band that had the word "Hybrid" in it. So they had to rename it, again. The guys thought that the title Lincoln Park would be the best choice because when Chester was younger, he used to go to band practice and every day he passed by Lincoln Park, yet there was already a website called lincolnpark.com, and then Chester Bennington came up with Linkin Park as their title.
