Trace the spark plug wires they start at the coil and end at the spark plug
under intake on backside of motor.
Bad ignition coil will cause engine to sputter and hesitate on acceleration.

I cant be of much help other than i also have a 99 grand am v6 3.4...if you tell me the orderyou have yours I can compare it to my own. Off the top of my head i know that the middle spark plug is #4 but I would have to check on the others

The 2.8 V6 has a single coil, not a coil pack It is located behind the distributor and on top of the engine. Unplug the wire harness, un bolt and reverse procedure to change.
