behind the dash on the passenger side. Not worth the hassle -- there are forums that teach you to change your air compressor for the AC into an air compressor - fill tires, rafts, beds etc! Google it!
No, the entire dash has to be removed.
If the drain plug under the evaporator coil is plugged up it will cause condensation to leak into the car. If the heater core is bad it will allow coolant to leak into the car. If the leak is warm and smells sweet it is the heater coil.
Buy a kit at Wal-Mart or auto parts comes with adaptors, fittings, and instructions
I had the same problem that turned out to be the Heater core leaking. Check the floor on the passanger side to see if the carpet is wet. This is a big, expensive job. The dash has to be removed to get at the heater core. Plus, you also have to deal with the AC evaporator, etc. Might want to consider trading it in and let the dealer have the problem.
A bad smell coming from the heater in a vehicle can indicate a bad heater core. One way to check this out is to see if the smell is worse when you sit in the passenger seat. If it is, there is a good chance the heater core is bad.
The heater core is inside the hvac housing under the dash.
About $600
Yes
The heater core is inside the hvac housing behind the dash.
Remove the dash and replace the evaporator...you might as well replace the heater core while your in there. Its a big job...but can be done a lot cheaper than bringing it to a mechanic
The Haynes Jeep Cherokee 1984 - 1996 book has 7 different diagrams which show how to do that repair.
On a 1998 Ford Ranger : The evaporator core for the air conditioning system is inside the plastic case ( that also holds the heater core ) located behind and below the glove compartment in the dash on the passenger side
Well I'm no sure if it is the same thing as the evaporator core but i just had all that stuff replaced on my 98 gr. Cherokee. The dash had to be taken out and the parts were close to 200$ labor was another 350$..good luck hope ya get a better deal than i did!
no , the heater core is for your heat , the evaporator core is for your air conditioning ( cooling )
between 6 and 8 hours
The expansion valve is located in the lines connecting the evaporator core which is located inside the evaporator housing behind the dash and the glove box.
Passenger side under the dash board. That big black box which routes all of the air to the vents has to be removed.
