French horns are not used in Marching Bands. They are too unstable to march with effectively.

Bands that march french horns are insane.

The marching version of the french horn is called the "mellophone".

There is also an instrument similar to the mellophone named the "marching french horn", but they are essentially the same instrument with a different mouthpiece.

Additional marching brass instruments are trumpets, trombones, baritones, and tubas

How do i finger a marching french horn versus a regular french horn?

The actual name for the "marching F-Horn" is a Mellophone. The fingerings are identical to that of a trumpet. On a Horn, you finger the E open and the D first. On a Mellophone (marching horn) the E is first and second, and the D is first and third.

Is a mellophone a treble clef baritone?

Not quite. It's more of a marching band version of the French horn.

What is more popular soprano sax or alto sax?

It all comes down to preference. Trumpet is usually regarded as easier to play, and is more versatile, because it can be played in concert bands, marching bands, and jazz bands, whereas French Horn is usually isn't seen in marching or jazz bands. However, French Horn players are rarer than trumpet players, and thus more in demand. I play both, and both are very fun to play. If I had to choose one, I would go with trumpet because it is more versatile, and if you do change your mind, it is easier to switch from trumpet to Horn than it is to go from Horn to trumpet.

Is a marching French horn the same as a regular French horn?

No. A marching french horn, also called a mellophone, has a shape more like a trumpet with a large bell facing forward. A "regular" french horn has the bell facing backwards. You use your left hand to play the french horn and your right hand to play the mellophone. Fingering also changes to that identical to a trumpet, or a B-flat Horn (the E's and D's are fingered differently). Some mellophones are made to be used with a trumpet (cornet) mouthpiece, but there are adapters you can use to use your horn mouthpiece. Other mellophone are made to be used only with a horn mouthpiece.

What are the main instruments in the brass section?

Included in the Brass section of a symphony orchestra are: ~ Trumpet ~ Trombones (tenor and bass) ~ Tuba ~ French Horn Other groups (marching bands, concert band, jazz groups) may include ~ Sousaphone ~ Flugelhorn ~ Cornet ~ Mellophone ~ Euphonium ~ Tenor Horn It could be argued that a saxophone is a brass instrument, but technically it is a woodwind in terms of sound production.

Ambiguous. Most likely though, a horn in F, a double horn, or, less often, a Bb horn. Or, not a marching horn.

What instrements are in an American marching band?

Piccolo, flute, clarinet, saxophone (mostly alto and tenor, sometimes baritone), trumpet, trombone, mellophone (marching version of French horn), baritone, tuba, drums, and maybe other percussion (marimba, timpani, but those stay at the front of the field). Marching bands don't use double-reeded woodwinds, and there are no strings.

A French horn is most likely to be found in a concert band or a brass band, although there are jazz bands with French horns. French horn is in its element, however, in a symphony orchestra.
