Ras Cardo reggae- Ricardo Scott- from trench town while living there coined the term- Reggae from the street word for a promiscuous girl- Streggae. He did this in the company of his friends while on the street corners of west roads and third streets their regular gathering place at that time.

At the time, the late great original wailing wailer and brethren- Junior Braithwaite was with him as one of his childhood close friends.

Cardo was studying latin at the prestigious catholic high school- St Georges college and saw the connections between certain latin words such as- Puella, Puellae meaning- A girl. He noted the -AE- ending similar to that in the word Stregg-AE. and while they played the rhythm of the musical beat they were rehearsing on the corners, Cardo decided to change the negative hostile demeaning nature of the word to women, into something positive with the music.

Cardo wanted all women, including his sisters , mother, and those in the area to be uplifted and looked at and be treated with the respect they deserved.

By doing this, he has changed a word to change a Culture, and today women all over the world can feel safe and respected from being called a streggae.

Cardo has the details of the history and the evidence from all those who were there at the time when he did so.

The music industry has misled people into thinking that it has something to do with what- Toots- placed in his song with the wrongly spelled words- REGAY-. This is what he took after hearing it from trench town and quickly plaing it in his song.

The truth is this however- The word reggae has a deeper menaing and history than those who try to steal from it will ever know. Ras cardo has the details as to why he created it and put the messages of the msuic to it in 1962 trench town.

Cardo has always said- REGGAE WAS NOT COINED BY A FOOL OR AN ILLITERATE.
