The word- coined- in this sense means -TO INVENT, to bring into existence, to give life and meaning to.

When Ras Cardo reggae from trench town said he coined reggae- the word- he meant that he brought it to life., he invented it.

He coined -REGGAE- from a street word- STREGGAE. He did this by removing the prefix for street-ST, and what remained was the word- reggae to which he made the music. Streggae was initially a negatively stigmatized word for a promiscuous girl of the streets. Ras Cardo changed all that and brought dignity to all women in Jamaica and the world. Women must no longer feel ashamed of who they are, because Ras cardo has lifted them up.
