The guitar wasn't actually officially declared invented until 1929, but Les Paul had been attempting to perfect amplification since the early 1920's. It was George Beauchamp who first invented the electrically amplified guitar and Adolph Richenbacher (Rickenbacker) first manufactured them in 1932. Les Paul then had the chance to make some of the better electric Guitars in 1936.
