Bill Griese is a Nashville-based singer/songwriter originally from NJ. He writes and performs original music that is packed with feel and heartfelt lyrics. Bill's smooth voice and laid-back approach often lead to comparisons to the iconic James Taylor. In fact, RadioIndy wrote: "If you like James Taylor, you'll love Bill Griese."
As of 2013, Bill has two original CDs, "For This Day" (2003) and "Too Long Coming" (2011), and several singles available on iTunes-including the emotional father-daughter song "On Three" and his lighthearted release "Taylor Swift's Ex." His 2011 single "Zoom" was featured in a national television commercial for FujiFilm. In 2013, departing from his usual sound, Bill wrote and released a high-energy football/sports song called "R U Ready," featuring guest vocals by NJ rapper Heathen. The song has been featured on ESPN, as well as in college and NFL stadiums. Bill's 2013 single, "I Will, I Do," was praised by Contemporary Bride Magazine as a fresh new first dance song that "has the chance to become a staple at weddings." Bill's third full-length CD is scheduled for release in 2014, and he continues to write new material and perform around Nashville and beyond.
Answer:
Bill is a singer/songwriter from the great state of NJ. He's been playing acoustic guitar, singing, and writing songs for 20 years.
The younger brother of two musicians, Bill was always inspired to someday play/perform. After college his closet hobby of playing the guitar began to grow. His songwriting (always more of an interest than playing other people's songs) began to mature, and his songs began to get the attention of those around him. In 2000, encouraged by a faithful following of friends and 'open mic' attendees, Bill began to lay the groundwork to put together his first CD of original music.
Recorded in the latter half of 2002, "For This Day" was released in 2003 and received praise from casual listeners and critics alike. Nine of the 12 original songs on the CD were written by Bill himself, and 3 were penned with longtime friend and NYC musician Dave Hammer. The project was recorded in Colorado at the studio of Jim Ratts. The musicianship of the supporting players is top notch. Though an independent recording without much promotion, For This Day has sold copies all over the country and in many nations around the globe.
Since For This Day, Bill's life has been busy. And his songwriting took a hit -- in fact he wrote no new material for nearly two years. Fortunately the last couple of years has seen a resurgence in songwriting and performing. Bill is back in full swing writing and playing... and is hoping to get back into the studio again sometime soon to record his second album.
In the Fall of 2008, Bill released the song/video on YouTube "Believe" -- inspired by the historic election of our Nation's first African-American President. Continuing on that momentum, in April of 2009, Bill --together with longtime cowriter Dave Hammer -- made waves in Nashville with a brand new song "On Three," which has been signed by a music publisher and will hopefully see the light of day as a feature on the future CD of a female country artist. It is the second such song by the duo to go under contract (the first was 1999's "Love's Seen It All").
Bill continues to perform in and around New Jersey.
