Fresh Blueberry Pancake was a rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The band members were John Behrens (guitar), Tony Impavido (vocals and bass guitar), and Geoff Reidell (drums).
The band was together from 1968 to about 1974. They started out doing covers of Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly and others, but eventually started writing their own material.
In 1970 they recorded a demo album of their first songs. The band members were all about 16-17 years old at the time.
Most, if not all, of the songs were recorded in one take, with no multi-tracking, overdubbing (except for a harmonica in one song), and no post-production. Simply put, it was a recording of a live performance in the studio that day.
The nine songs each differ in style, from heavy, to jazzy, to hard-to categorize.
All songs are copyrighted in the Library Of Congress dated August 18, 1971 which shows all words and music to be written by all three members of the band.
The album had a plain white cover to which was affixed an orange bumper sticker reading "Fresh Blueberry Pancake --- Heavy"
Although the demo had no official name, it has come to be titled "HEAVY" as a result of that sticker.
A copy of the original demo was the top selling vinyl on e-bay for the month of June 2010. It sold for $7,000, beating out records by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Doors, and others by a significant dollar amount that month.
The band went on to write and perform many other original songs, but no more records were ever made.
