Sequoya was a Cherokee (Tsalagi) Indian born 1770 died 1843 at 73 years of age who invented or created the current alphabet used by the Cherokee for their native language. Sequoya worked primarily as a Silversmith. He was married twice, his first wife Sally bore four children, his second wife Utiyu bore three children.

so the white mans value to the land of cherokee is because of sequoya.
Sequoyah wanted his people to remain free he thought that if his people could communicate with each other by reading and writing, then they could keep their independence of the white people because the Cherokees had no written language.
Many Eastern Cherokee Native Americans were skilled craftsmen/tradesmen, like builders and brick/stone masons. Hopefully those skills continued when the Eastern tribes were forced to relocate West (1820's - 1840's) While many homes were simple wooden structures, prior to the tragic Trail of Tears more and more homes were being constructed of bricks and stones. The Cherokee Nation was the first Native American Tribe to have its own written language, with the alphabet being developed by Sequoya who died in the early to mid 1840's I think.
Sequoya feel mad
Sequoya created a "syllabary" of the Tsalagi language (an alphabet). He made a new language for them :)

Sequoya was a member of the Tsalagi (pronounced (closely) to Cherokee). There are several sub-tribes and I'm not aware of which he was affiliated with.
