White Soxx were the french musicians David Fairstein and Frédéric Mercier (NOT an alias of Freddie Mercury, as is often stated!). "Versailles" was their only cooperation, as the song only was a minor hit in the Netherlands and in Germany and sank like a stone in UK and even in France. Here a video can be found with the two talking about the song: http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=hDzDIqmwFJA

The story of the song is based on the so-called "Moberly-Jourdain incident", a seemingly time-slip experience of two british ladies that happened on August 10, 1901. Details can be found on Wikipedia.
