Well this answer depends onones personal opinion, but I think most people would agree that its Dylan. Bob Dylan has been described as one of the most influential figures of the 20th century, musically and culturally. Dylan was included in theTime 100: The Most Important People of the Century where he was called "master poet, caustic social critic and intrepid, guiding spirit of the counterculture generation". In 2004, he was ranked number two in Rolling Stone magazine's list of "Greatest Artists of All Time". Dylan biographer Howard Sounes placed him in even more exalted company when he said, "There are giant figures in art who are sublimely good---Mozart, Picasso, Frank Lloyd Wright, Shakespeare, Dickens. Dylan ranks alongside these artists."

His most famous song, Like a Rolling Stone, was named the greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine. Another one of his famous songs, All Along the Watchtower, has been covered by such musical geniuses as Jimi Hendrix, U2, Dave Matthews, Prince, Neil Young, Grateful Dead, John Mellencamp, Pearl Jam, Bryan Ferry, The Allman Brothers, and Metallica.

A quote from the Time100 article, "Dylan was suddenly a singer no longer. He was a shaman. A lot of people called him a prophet. In a way, it must have been scarier than being booed. Everything he sang, said, did or even wore took on a specific gravity that made it harder and harder for him to move. The music became so important to so many people, took on such awesome proportions, that Dylan could respond only with the ultimate sanity: silence."

He had an influence in fashion as well. Zimbio named him the #18 most influential person in fashion. Motorcycle boots, skinny blazers, stovepipe jeans, striped shirts, fitted pea coats, flat-heeled, mod boots, and striped scarves were all popularized by Dylan. The Rayban Wayfarers, some of the most popular sunglasses of all time, were also popularized by Dylan.

If you were to compare The Beatles as a whole to Dylan, it might be a fairer argument. But Dylan vs Lennon is no contest: Dylan in straight sets.
